Ankawa - Sarkis Aghajan received in his residence in Ankawa, Erbil Senator Edrin Coteron, member of the French House of Senate who head an official delegation from the French government on a visit to study the conditions of the Christian community in the Middle East.
The French Senator was accompanied by the French Consul General in Kurdistan Region Frederick Tissot and Anne Cecily Berzek the senator’s assistant with the accompanying delegation.
Discussed during the meeting were the general conditions of the Chaldean Syriac Assyrian people and their problems and sufferings as well as the demands of the people and its political parties for an autonomous region in Kurdistan Region and the establishment of a governorate in the Nineveh Plains with an objective to halt immigration to the diaspora and encourage them to stay in Iraq.
The demographic changes that have been taking in the areas where the Christians currently live were also discussed.
During the meeting, Senator Coteron presented Sarkis Aghajan with the Shield of the French House of Senate.
