Detroit - Janan Sawa has been in hot waters recently after a picture of him laying on an Assyrian flag surfaced on the net. Some within the community have called for boycotting his CDs, concerts, and parties. The following is a letter by Janan Sawa released to the press earlier this week:
I would like to start this post by saying Shlama Alukhon to the people of my nation{ AUMTI GABARTA }. In regard to the picture of me laying on the Towel which has our great flag that i love and respect: I had just got out of my pool and I wrapped the towel around my body because that is one towel that i really love and it makes me feel worm and proud because it has our Nation flag on it.
The flag that I will protect and respect as long as im living,It is my Flag just like its yours. Please do not let the picture misrepresent me or get the wrong idea about me. I have strong beliefs and hopes that our flag will fly high in the sky over our Nation our Land our Country . I have served my Nation for most of my life and the people of my Nation served me and helped me to be who I am and i thank them and my Nation.
For those who think i was wrong by laying on my lovely Flag I apologize to my Nation and its sons and daughters ,but I want them to understand that I meant no harm or disrespect to my Nation or Flag. As every Great Nation we have to be more understanding and educated if someone makes a mistake we have to solve the problem by making the person who made the mistake to understand his wrongdoing. Not by going on facebook and start calling him or her all kind of unpleasant names.
