Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó has proposed that the United Nations help Christian refugees return safely to their hometowns in the Middle East by establishing special "administrative zones."

Addressing the 34th Session of the UN Human Rights Council, Szijjártó decried the "hypocritical" approach of many Westerners to hostility against Christians. Deeming this response as unacceptable, the Hungarian official emphasized the importance of protecting Christian communities all over the world, Breitbart relays.

For Szijjártó, the world's approach to anti-Christian sentiment must change. He then proposed that the International Criminal Court should bring all the perpetrators of anti-Christian crimes to justice. The Hungarian minister also called on international communities to help create a safe zone in the Middle East so that Christian asylum seekers can return safely to their homes after the conflict.

"Accordingly, Hungary is proposing two things: firstly, the International Criminal Court must be called upon to not leave unpunished any crime that is committed anywhere in the world against Christians. We must put an end to the application of double standards," Szijjártó told the council. "Secondly, international communities must assure the right of Middle Eastern Christian communities to return to their homes following the end of the conflict from which they have fled once the area is fully liberated."

However, Szijjártó noted that the Christians who have been forced to flee their homes are still not allowed to return because of existing threats and dangers even after their place has been liberated from the Islamic State. He said the freedom and security of refugees can only be guaranteed with a "heavy UN presence" at designated administrative zones.

Earlier this year, the Ministry of Human Capacities' parliamentary state secretary Bence Rétvári said Hungary passed a resolution which condemns ISIS' persecution of Christians and calling on the ICC to declare the militant group's atrocities as genocide. He also said the country is set to become the main support hub for groups seeking to fight Christian persecution, About Hungary reports.

In addition, Rétvári said Hungary is gearing up for a traveling exhibition across Europe to shed more light on the persecution of Christians. He also called for a concrete action plan that can truly help the persecuted believers.
