On
"The Ingraham Angle" tonight, Laura Ingraham pulled back the curtain
on the plight of persecuted Christians and other minorities in the Middle East,
and how the Trump administration's efforts to deliver aid are being stalled.
Vice
President Mike Pence recently announced that the U.S. government would aid persecuted
refugees in the Middle East directly and shift away from funding “ineffective”
United Nations programs.
"We will
no longer rely on the United Nations alone to assist persecuted Christians and
minorities in the wake of genocide and the atrocities of terrorist groups,”
Pence said October 25 at the annual summit of In Defense of Christians.
"The United States will work hand in hand from this day forward with
faith-based groups and private organizations to help those who are persecuted
for their faith. This is the moment, now is the time, and America will support
these people in their hour of need.”
Ingraham
said that USAID, the government agency primarily responsible for administering
civilian foreign aid, is "dragging its feet" on implementing the
White House's agenda.
She
called USAID a "deeply entrenched government bureaucracy" and
revealed that a spokesperson for the agency told Fox News that the next step is
a "workshop on proposals," which won't take place until January 2018.
"Why
are parts of the government defying the president's orders?" Ingraham
asked.
Rep.
Brian Babin (R-TX) said this is the "deep state" at work, and he has
a "real problem" with USAID and the State Department resisting the
changes announced by Pence.
"It's
so important for the tax dollars of the United States to go directly to these
persecuted groups, rather than through the corrupt and the obviously
incompetent UN agency," Babin said, calling for Congress to "step up
to the plate."
Ingraham
agreed that Congress must to do something, because bureaucrats within the
government are clearly working against the administration's wishes.
