The Patriarch of Antioch and All the East and Supreme Head of the Syriac Orthodox Church worldwide, Mar Ignatius Aphrem II, inaugurated today Saint George Cathedral in the city of Hasakah, with wide public attendance.

Members of the Syriac community and Christians participated in the inauguration ceremony, alongside representatives of the components of Hasakah city, including Kurds and Arabs, as well as cultural, religious, and social figures from al-Jazira region and across Syria.

The opening of the cathedral comes as a step reflecting the deep historical and religious roots of the Syriac people in the region.

The visit of Patriarch Mar Ignatius Aphrem II to the area is the first of its kind in several years and carries important spiritual and social significance, especially in light of ongoing efforts to strengthen coexistence among the region’s diverse communities.
