Derabon is a village located near the Iraqi-Syrian-Turkish border, and is 22 km from Zakho. The name Derabon is Assyrian-rooted, meaning the "Monastery of the Father."
Many inhabitants of the village have
recently returned to it fleeing the acts of terrorism against the Assyrian communities in Baghdad and Mosul. With the help of the Hizil Foundation, 150 new homes were built. The village's church was also renovated and furnished. A hall was
built for the village to serve various social and religious occasions. Its
streets have been paved and the cemetery is now guarded. Security guards have also been employed for to protect the village. And for the first time, the village was connected to the national power supply grid and was provided with an electric power
generator.
